THE PASSING OF WILSON "SKIP" STRONG

(1966 - 2005)

September 26, 2005

ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF WILSON “SKIP” STRONG

TRAGICALLY KILLED IN MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

Veteran Constellation crew chief died on his way to help others

The Board of Directors, Officers and Members of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company deeply regret to announce the passing of Assistant Fire Chief Wilson “Skip” Strong on Monday September 26, 2005. At the time of his passing Chief Strong was working for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company in the US Gulf Region as part of the hurricane relief efforts and was killed as a result of a motor vehicle crash while enroute to the affected areas. Chief Strong was 38 years old.

Skip grew up in Harford County, graduating from Fallston High School. He began his career with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company on January 5, 1993 and rose through the ranks from Sergeant to Lieutenant to Captain and finally to Assistant Chief in 2003. Chief Strong was deeply dedicated to his service to the Harford County community as a volunteer firefighter and truly exemplified the meaning of pride, courage, tradition, and loyalty in the fire service. Skip was a natural borne leader who had the ability to draw others to him, a trait that in turn allowed others to entrust him with their lives. The community and the fire company were Chief Strong’s second family and he gave to them each and every day, in spirit and in body. Those are bonds that can never be broken. For that he is a hero to all he served.
