FOLLOWUP:

On Saturday evening, January 23rd, the BAVFC took to the streets of the Hickory Hills Condominiums to check smoke detectors. There were 14 firefighters who took part in this effort. They visited close to 40 buildings (there are 67 buildings in the complex), knocked on over 150 doors and installed 40 smoke detectors. During their work they found that while the detectors were physically present each one they tested was totally inoperable.

The simple act of checking your smoke detector is the easiest preventive maintenance you can do for your home and one of the most responsible things you can do for your family. It only takes seconds to simply check the device's functionality. Please take the time to make a difference in your escape from a residential fire. If you need assistance with smoke detector installation or are in a financial situation that prevents you from purchasing a detector please call the Bel Air VFC at 410-638-4401 or 410-638-4400 and ask to speak with a fire line officer for further assistance.
