OUR OBJECTIVE “We, the members of the Auxiliary of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, now unite as a body to assist the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company in any manner possible.”
Hello, and welcome to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary webpage. I am Susan Eyre and currently the President of the Auxiliary. I am proud to say I am one of 33 men and woman who make up the BAVFC Auxiliary and volunteer at one of the busiest volunteer fire companies in Harford County. Our primary purpose, as an Auxiliary, is that we support our company in “any manner possible.” Rehab support has a very important role and currently a primary function from an Auxiliary standpoint. It allows us to provide the necessary tools to keep fire fighters / EMS personnel hydrated and fueled during emergency calls. These events alone require those of us who can, be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are currently in the process of having a custom support unit built on a recently purchased 2007 International cab and chassis. We are very excited about this project and know that it will serve our members and our community well. This will allow us to respond much quicker and become more efficient at what we do on the scene of an emergency. Auxiliary members who respond to the fire house may be asked to prepare meals for Fire and EMS; so that when they return from calls they can be fed breakfast, lunch or dinner, which ever is appropriate. Through out the year we participate in other activities, such as volunteering our help to the Harford County Rabies Clinic each April. It’s a fun day for us and we look forward to it each year. July brings the 4th of July festivities, which requires preparing food at the fire house for those crews who stand by during the event and as well as for their families to enjoy throughout the afternoon and evening. Of course October means Fire Prevention Week activities including our annual open house. The Auxiliary has recently begun selling pit beef and hot dogs as a fund raiser. In the fall of 2006, the Auxiliary successfully hosted a Longaberger Basket Bingo. We are currently looking into making this an annual event. So watch for any upcoming flyers. Not everyone in the Auxiliary is required to respond to the fire scene. We have members who assist our business office with computer data entry, ambulance club billing, volunteer on various committees, and prepare meals for various Fire and EMS dinner meetings. So as you can see we are a very active group of individuals. It’s very much a combination of hard work and good fun.
