Welcome to the Personnel Division of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. One of the many questions you may have is - "What is a volunteer firefighter / ems provider?
How do I become a member of the fire company? The answer is - "Fill out this application, mail it back to us and our Membership Division will be in contact with you." Now you ask yourself, well am I really cut out to ride a fire engine or an ambulance? Well, not all of our members actively participate in the emergency side of the fire company. Some of our members participate in other ways, such as administrative tasks, record keeping, secretarial work, and the list goes on and on. We currently have five types of membership, with each type having its own unique functions and responsibilities. To find out about each type - CLICK HERE! To help you make you decision and give you a start, listed below are the minimum requirements to join, the steps you will go thru to becoming a member, some of the membership requirements and a list of the benefits our members receive. Minimum Requirements for Membership *You must be 18 years of age or older Cadet members must be 16 years to 18 years old *You must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D., the exception being: Probationary members who are enrolled in high school Cadet members must be enrolled in high school Cadet members must have written consent of their parents or guardians
The Membership Process * Complete Application The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. does not discriminate against age, race, gender, sexual preference, or creed. *Attend a membership interview * Pass a criminal background check * Pass a physical exam * Designate yourself as either a prospective FIRE or EMS member. This applies only to ACTIVE MEMBERS who wish to participate in emergency operations. * Pass a 2/3 vote for acceptance as a probationary member at a fire company meeting.
General Membership Requirements Once you have completed the membership process and are accepted into the company as a Probationary Member there are some requirements that you must meet to maintain your membership in good standing. Based on your type of membership, you may have to attend a certain percentage of emergency calls and attend company drills to maintain your training. The percentage of emergency responses is determined by the Company Bylaws and by the elected officers of the company before each statistical year begins.
