The Board of Directors, Officers and members of the Bel Air VFC regret to announce the passing of life member and past Chief Peter Caudill on November 15, 2006. Pete was a member of the Bel Air VFC since August 8, 1973. During that time he responded to over 10,492 fire calls Pete held the following elected positions during his tenure with the company:
Lieutenant - 1 year
Captain - 4 years
Asst Chief - 1 year
Chief - 1 year
Pete will always be remembered for all the knowledge of the fire service, including his vast automotive skills, he so eagerly passed on to younger and older members alike during training events or while just hanging around the firehouse.
For officers and members alike he was one of the first ones we turned to on the scene of a rescue box for advice on how to best remove a patient. He was always there, leading the rescue operation with a calm voice and steady hand.
He was also in high demand and always available to help a fellow member out when their vehicle broke down and they had no idea what was wrong. He would diagnose the problem within minutes and was always there to help fix the problem or to just offer reassuring advice to the "less skilled" backyard mechanics.
We will also fondly remember him for all the fun times, practical jokes and laughter he brought to the firehouse. The TV Room will never be the same!
He had many nicknames around the station but the best was "Chief Riff Raff".
So in closing we have to say that he was much loved and respected will be sorely missed.
