Our featured member of the month is Fire Lieutenant Scott McNutt. Let’s hear from Scott in his own words as to why he joined the BAVFC.
Growing up next to the main BAVFC fire station, hearing the house siren along with the fire trucks, and watching the fireman run into the station for calls I knew from the young age of 6 that being a firefighter was my destiny. I’ve lived in the town of Bel Air my entire life, and protecting my family and friends in the neighborhood that I grew up in is still a huge part of my life today.
I have been with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company for the past 12 yrs. I joined the firehouse in the Spring of 2005, and currently hold the rank of Lieutenant 3 at the main fire station on South Hickory Ave. I’m also the chair person for the station’s Fire Prevention Program.
In 2006, I worked as a 911 dispatcher for Harford County before getting hired by the Baltimore City Fire Department in 2007, where I am still employed today , assigned to Engine 50 as a Firefighter/EMT. I continue to take fire department classes regularly to better myself and remain proficient so that I can continue to enjoy the job that I love.
