Benefits of Joining BAVFC

The BAVFC has three fire stations (with a fourth being planned) where you can respond and call home.

They are in Forest Hill, Patterson Mill and in downtown Bel Air. Within each station there are many amenities. The dept as a whole (and the county and state too) offer multiple benefits to those who are members.

Let’s take a look …

Retirement / LOSAP

Harford County provides a Length of Service pension program knows as LOSAP. After 25 years and age 55, you’ll receive a monthly stipend from the county. Currently it’s $300 per month and an additional $6/month per year over 25 years of service, with a maximum benefit of $450/month. For those with 5-24 years of service (with at least five continuous years of service), you’ll receive $12/month for every year of service with a maximum benefit of $288.

State of Maryland Income Tax Credit

The State of Maryland extends a state income tax credit in the amount of $4,000 to BAVFC members who have at least three years of service.

Bel Air Property Tax Reduction

If you are a resident of the town of bel air and pay town taxes you receive 10% off your taxes as a member of the BAVFC

Personal Protective Equipment

The BAVFC provides you with ALL your needed personal protective equipment for fire and EMS operations at NO cost to you.

Dress Uniform Benefit

The BAVFC covers 100% of your Class A (dress) uniform costs!

Full Station Facilities

Full size bunk rooms in each station with a full size bath for men and women, full size kitchens with all commercial appliances and living rooms/rec rooms.

Tuition Reimbursement Program

The BAVFC follows the Harford County Vol Fire and EMS Association tuition reimbursement program.

Free WiFi

Free WIFI for members at all stations and facilities.

Training, Training, Training

The BAVFC provides FREE training in house and if approved covers the costs of outside training events that do have tuition or fees. The State of Maryland provides ALL fire and EMS training at no cost the member. There are multiple locations where you can take dozens of various fire and EMS classes taught by accredited instructors. This is the same training, same certifications that a person who gets paid to be a firefighter, EMT or paramedic receives.

Tax Credit

MD state credit for eligible volunteers is now valued at $4750!

And Last but Not Least … Camaraderie!

The biggest benefit is camaraderie. You will make friendships and share in good memories that last a lifetime. Remember it’s not just a singular opportunity you can make it a family opportunity too! There are needed positions in the administration and auxiliary as well. There is something for everyone. They all share these same benefits too!

This past weekend the BAVFC held a special drive through retention event for all its members, a different way in 2020 to thank its own for what they do. Thanks @cabotcheese !
